With your standard gain and volume controls, you also have a tone knob that covers a very wide frequency range. allowing you to soften the treble content and letting you introduce more top-end presence, this control ensures that you cut through in a mix - no matter how dark-sounding your amplifier is.
The PRE knob allows you to increase treble without cutting bass, and allows you also to tune your drives tone to different amplifiers. it acts as a further gain and treble control of sorts.
